The Philosophy of Choice

I have come to the conclusion that terrorism, racism, sexism, class-ism…etc., and all other “isms” are illnesses. These diseases are born from within of ignorance, self-hatred and just old fashion cowardice. What is truly amazing is that those who are sick want to mask their illness under a movement or justify it with a cause. I was reminded today of the saying attributed to Socrates, that the unexamined life is not worth living. I believe there is truth in those words, but what if the examination of one’s life leads to the deaths of other lies? The terrorist in France chose to examine their lives and commit acts of cowardice that will forever change the lives of the people of the world. If you want to take your own life, so be it…I do believe anyone would have stood in their way. But to assassinate others for your cause is nothing short of murder in a name of hatred.

They call what they are fighting for a religious war and as in all wars there are causalities. I am not excusing the atrocities of war born from any nation by any mean, including my own, but to kill without challenge is not war. It is just murder.

My heart goes out in the memory those that perished in France and to all the innocent casualties who cease to exist in the name of war.
