Either King or Pawn

The Philosophy of Choice

Blacky

Coat as dark as the night, so black it’s blue,

Glistening like stars in the sky, so true.

Teeth of pearl, were fierce when drawn to anger,

Kind only to those your oath would protect.

On watch, on guard-every night and day,

‘Til hate stole you in a most gruesome way.

Hot tar thrown, on my Knight and my friend,

Inflicting pain and wounds, that caused your end.

Softly, whimpers from the backyard were heard,

Cries for help, to those you’d given your word.

Nothing could be done; tar had torn through Knight,

White meat and blood were the end of your fight.

The ignorance of hate, stole from me joy,

My angel, my friend, beloved Black Boy.
